The lighthouse
facing the bay from Cap de Sant Antoni was
successor of other defensive constructions and
religious took the privileged status of the
plateau. The hermits chose to isolate themselves
from worldly life and, in his honor, was built
in the sixteenth century hermitage of San
Antonio, who came in giving name to feature.
The place was declared a nature reserve on
November 9, 1993 and covers an area of 110
hectares, located opposite the town of Javea.
The reserve protects a transition zone between
the low-lying and sandy materials detr?ticos the
Gulf of Valencia and cliffs up to 150 meters
typical of the northern province of Alicante and
who are protected by the natural park of the
Massif Montg?. These factors conducive to a
diverse seamounts that allows the existence of
various ecosystems.
At the other end of the cape, in its upper part,
is the lighthouse (1855), next to a lookout from
which you can see the northern town of Denia and
the Gulf of Valencia and south bay Javea.
It was occupied their land by the monastery of
St. Jerome, in addition to lookout towers
erected to fend off raids by pirates,
constructions that led to the current
lighthouse. This viewpoint is undoubtedly one of
the scenarios most privileged coastal Alicante.
